Ready Prepare your home before a wildfire threatens. Create a defensible space around your home by clearing away brush and flammable vegetation. Use fire-resistant landscaping and harden your home with fire-safe construction measures such as non-flammable siding and roofing. Plan escape routes and make sure everyone knows the plan. Assemble emergency supplies and belongings in a safe place so that you can grab them in a hurry and leave. Visit the NFPA Site to learn more about preparing your home.
Set
Conditions can change quickly during a wildland fire. Stay updated and aware of the current conditions from local media, your local fire department and public safety sources. Make sure that everyone in the home knows what is going on and what the plan is if evacuation is necessary.
Go Act early. Follow your plan. Doing so will not only support your safety but will allow firefighters to best manuever resources to combat a fire.
